The Sacred Beginning
August 29, 1964 – Janmashtami
On the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, a historic meeting was held at Sandeepani Sadhanalaya Ashram in Powai, Mumbai. Founding visionaries included Swami Chinmayananda, Sant Tukadoji Maharaj, Master Tara Singh, Sushil Muni, and 40 other dignitaries.
First World Hindu Conference
January 22-24, 1966 – Prayag
25,000 delegates from 12 countries and 300 prominent saints came together. Motto “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah” adopted. Maharaja Chamraj Wadiyar declared first President.
Udupi Dharma Sansad: Breaking Barriers
December 13-14, 1969
Prominent saints passed a historic resolution for social harmony, declaring “Hindavah Sodara Sarve, Na Hindu Patito Bhavet” — All Hindus are brothers, no one is inferior or untouchable.
Jorhat Conference: Embracing Tribal Unity
March 27-29, 1970
A groundbreaking conference declaring that nature-worshipping tribal society is an integral part of Hindu society, protecting their indigenous spiritual practices.
Second World Hindu Conference
January 27-29, 1979 – Prayag
60,000 delegates from 18 countries. Inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, demonstrating growing global reach and interfaith harmony.

The first Dharma Sansad in the nation’s capital marked VHP’s growing influence in shaping national discourse on Hindu religious matters.
Ram Janmabhoomi Foundation Stone
November 9, 1989
Foundation stone laid by Kameshwar Choupal, a scheduled caste worker — demonstrating VHP’s commitment to eradicating caste discrimination.
Kashi Dharma Sansad
1994 – Varanasi
3,500 saints personally invited the Dom Raja (traditionally low caste) and welcomed him with garlands — an unprecedented act of Hindu unity.
Sustained Samrasata Initiatives
2003 – Present
Village priest training from tribal communities, Samrasata Yajnas, Unity Marches, SC/ST hostels, and celebrating anniversaries of Maharishi Valmiki, Sant Ravidas, and Dr. Ambedkar.
